Submission Guidelines

I. Checklist of Student Reminders Before Submitting Work

    • At the time of submission, you are still officially an undergraduate student.
    • Your work examines Asian issues, you currently study at a higher education institution in Asia or you are of Asian descent.
    • Work must be original, and not previously published.
    • Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.
    • Contributors may submit up to two pieces of writing each year.

II. Submission of Papers

  1. Send the MS Word documents as attachment ONLY (work submitted using other file extensions – jpeg and pdf, for instance – or submitted in handwriting will be disqualified from further consideration). Please do not paste the work in the email body
  2. Multiple submissions should be separated in different attachment files (up to 2 recommendations only, please)
  3. The email subject line should read “Submission – Writing Genre – Student Name.” For example: Submission – Biographical Essay – Dean Gui
  4. In the body of the email please include: i) Author’s Name; ii) Author’s Contact Email Address; iii) Author’s Contact Number (if available); and iv) List of Works Submitted
  5. Send the preceding information to

Additional Items Only for Student Papers Accepted for Publication

  • A brief (300 words) abstract – concise summary – of your article
  • A brief (50 words) professional bio of yourself (together with a profile photo of yourself)
  • A brief (50 words) summary of the course assignment related to your article (together with a profile photo of your CAR instructor, if desired)
  • 3 – 5 keywords representing the most important or interesting elements of your article
  • A Wikimedia Commons, Creative Commons or other copyright free image representing a major theme found in your work
  • Complete contact information for the author (full name, both school and personal email addresses, postal address and telephone number)
  • Student-authors will be added to the Inscribe Administrative Blackboard site which serves as the epicentre for sensitive and administrative items such as the various versions of authors’ paper drafts; editor’s and reviewer’s remark sheet templates; and a section of relevant resources. Student-authors should advise the journal staff if, after two weeks from the day their signed acceptance forms were submitted to the editors, they suspect they have not yet been added to the site

III. Submission of Journal Cover

  1. All images submitted should be in jpeg format and 100dpi resolution (a file of higher resolution will be required upon selection for publication)
  2. We accept only images in portrait orientation at this point
  3. Put the subject line with “Submission – Journal Cover – Your Name.” For example: Submission –Journal Cover – John Chan
  4. In the body of the email please include: i) Artist’s Name; ii) Contact Email Address; iii) Contact Number; iv) List of Works Submitted
  5. Send the image to


IV. Response Time & Notification

  • Successful contributors will be contacted through email within 7 weeks usually after the deadline upon the conditional acceptance of their works.
  • Those who do not hear from the editors after 7 weeks of the submission deadline may consider their submissions not selected for the current issue, and due to the possibly large number of submissions, we are unfortunately unable to reply to each writer; we do, however, encourage resubmission of your other works for consideration in future issues.
